Welcome Back Faculty

The Assessment Committee is doing some wonderful things this semester. Some of the projects include: Completing Department Assessment Plans, Reviewing last year's critical thinking project responses from participating departments, implementing the new component of the Student Learning Project which is to assess Foundational Studies courses with a series of capstone courses in both general education and career programs, and create professional development opportunities on the topic of assessment.

We hope to have a great year and get new members from a wide variety of departments and campus services involved.

For those of you interested in getting specific articles on assessment in your particular disciplines, please let us know. We have a large collection of print articles on general assessment, assessment of critical thinking, and assessment based on specific disciplines such as nursing, radiography, general education, English, health care, and more.

Department Assessment Plan

The Assessment Committee will spend the Spring semester assisting programs and departments on developing Department (or program) assessment plans. Programs and departments are asked to come to full group meetings ready to workshop their plans. There will be mentors willing to help departments and career programs in need of assistance. Please review the DAP template.

Thanksgiving Holiday

For those of you who missed the last full group meeting, we will be starting up in Spring 2009! There will be one more Executive Board meeting slated for Dec. 4. Make sure to keep abreast of what the committee is doing by reading through past committee minutes.

Spring 2009 brings some new focus for the committee. The committee will share the results from Fall 2008 Student Learning Project, which was to access critical thinking in the classroom. Committee will share the results and provide a forum to discuss what needs to be done with the data.

Also, the focus will shift to completing Department Assessment Plans. A template will be created for those departments unclear on what's expected of them. The committee asks that all members bring a copy of their department mission statement and standardized Student Learning Outcomes for their all the classes offered by their department. Please make sure to have these ready for the first full group meeting planned for January 22, 2009 meeting.
